Known as the “Whiskey Route”, it’s the most iconic way to climb Africa’s highest mountain – and for good reason. Ol Doinyo Lengai – The Sacred Mountain of the Maasai

Rising in solitude above the Rift Valley floor, Ol Doinyo Lengai – “The Mountain of God” – is both a geological wonder and a spiritual icon. The night ascent is steep and silent. But as the sun breaks the horizon, surreal lava ridges and the flamingo-stained waters of Lake Natron appear below. The only active carbonatite volcano on Earth, Lengai is raw, strange, and otherworldly. It’s not for everyone – but those who climb it never forget it.
